It’s porch season!  The time of year to read, relax, dine, and entertain outdoors!  Whether hosting a 4th of July gathering or enjoying an al fresco dinner for 2, you’ll want to cozy up your outdoor spaces with our rustic farmhouse decorating ideas.  I’m focusing on the front porch today, but these ideas translate easily to your deck or patio.

Combine the Old and the New

I love using garage sale finds and antique flower pots to add greenery and color to my porch.  I embrace the rust – I find that it adds some character. Here’s the little porch setup at The Mill, I think adding some neutral terracotta pots would be a nice new element to add to this porch. That color will tie in nicely with the rust…don’t you think!?!

Here’s my makeshift front porch at the Mill.
These terra cotta pots are great for indoors and outdoors!

Throw Rugs on Your Porch

Add color with a rug!  There are many places to pick up an indoor/outdoor rug – often I’ll choose a neutral color for the base rug and then layer on a brighter rug.  I might use this gray, blue, and white striped rug on top of a larger rug to break up the space.  Rugs add great texture and really make it feel like an outdoor room.

One Porch – Many Options

I love options.  Sometimes my porch looks the same for months on end, that’s really only because I’m too busy to change it!  If I did have time, I’d switch up the decor regularly.  One way to do this is through the plants in your pots.  Maybe you’ll use bright greenery and sunny pops of color in the spring or evergreens in the winter.  There is also no crime in using faux plants!  Have you seen the faux plants for sale at The Mill recently?  Faux florals have come a LONG way!

Can’t you picture these sweet topiaries on your porch?

Wall decor is also an easy way to change up your porch design.  Change out your farmhouse welcome sign for a wreath or vice versa.

This bright green foliage is perfect for a summer wreath.

However, you decide to spend time outside this summer – make sure that your space reflects YOU!
